Pointe Technique is part of classical ballet technique. En pointe, a dancer’s full body weight is supported on fully stretched feet and extended legs, on the tips of their toes. Pointe shoes enable a dancer to distribute weight more evenly throughout their foot and reduces the amount of pressure on toes. The development of strength and good technique are gained through extensive training. Students practicing intensively may be ready for pointe work. Factors such as strength, age, years of training, body placement and alignment are important in determining whether or not a student is ready for pointe work.
